Ping and traceroute don't work, what's wrong?

There may be several reasons why you don't get any ping responses from the other device:

  1. Make sure your router's security settings doesn't filter ICMP packets which are the packets used by ping. This typically happens when the routers are set to "high"/"increased" security level or similar.
  2. Make sure that the router doesn't isolate LAN devices from each other (usually called something like "wireless isolation"). In this case the probes sent by Network Analyzer cannot reach the other device on your LAN.
  3. Some devices simply don't respond to ping.
  4. If you ping a remote device/server, the device can be firewalled in which case you won't receive any response. Some Internet providers also use their own network traffic filtering and may filter-out the ICMP packets.
